About Us

Welcome to Congregation Kol Ami, Elmira, NY!

Congregation Kol Ami (CKA) is a warm and welcoming Jewish Community in Elmira, New York formed in 2011 by the merger of the former reform Congregation B’nai Israel and the former conservative Congregation Shomray Hadath.  Our Congregation consists of 166 family and individual memberships from the Elmira, Corning, the Finger Lakes Region of New York’s Southern Tier, and Northern Pennsylvania*.

We welcome interfaith families, provide meaningful opportunities for our members to worship in a variety of spiritually fulfilling ways.  Through Shabbat services, holiday observances and celebrations, classes, discussions, life cycle events, Bar/Bat Mitzvah training, and communal celebrations, CKA provides numerous and varied opportunities for religious, spiritual and intellectual growth.

The objectives of CKA shall be to establish and maintain a synagogue and activities of religious, educational, social and recreational nature – which will help further the cause of the synagogue and Judaism.

Currently CKA is not affiliated with any recognized Jewish organization such as United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism or the Union of Reform Judaism. We are for all intense purposes an independent Synagogue; however we do not belong to the Independent Minyan.
